Emergency Plumber FAQs for Stockport
Which areas in and around Stockport do you cover?
We cover all of Stockport and nearby areas, including Edgeley, Shaw Heath, Cale Green, Davenport, Great Moor, Adswood, Heaton Moor, Heaton Mersey, Heaton Chapel, Reddish, Brinnington, Offerton, Hazel Grove, High Lane, Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Bredbury, Woodley, Romiley and Marple.
Why do my radiators get warm when the heating is switched off?
On a combi boiler, a faulty diverter valve can let hot water into the radiators whenever you run a hot tap. On systems with a hot water cylinder, a heating zone valve that isn’t closing fully can do the same while the cylinder is heating. We’ll test the valves and replace the faulty one so the heating only comes on when you want it.
Can I pour boiling water down a blocked sink?
It’s best not to. Boiling water can soften plastic waste pipes and joints, and it can crack ceramic sinks and basins. Hot (not boiling) water with a little washing-up liquid can sometimes shift a grease build-up, and a plunger may help. If the sink still won’t drain, call us and we’ll clear it properly.
My tap water tastes metallic. Should I be worried?
Water that has been standing in the pipes overnight, or that runs through new copper pipework, can taste slightly metallic. Running the cold tap for a minute usually clears it. If the taste doesn’t go away, or the water is also discoloured, it may point to corrosion in your pipes or a supply issue. We can inspect your pipework, and you can also contact your water supplier.
Do you agree the price before starting?
Yes. Your plumber will diagnose the problem and give you a clear quote first. Work only goes ahead once you’ve agreed to the price.
