Emergency Plumber FAQs for Derby
Which areas of Derby do you cover?
We cover all of Derby and nearby areas, including Allestree, Darley Abbey, Duffield, Breadsall, Oakwood, Chaddesden, Spondon, Borrowash, Alvaston, Allenton, Chellaston, Sinfin, Normanton, Pear Tree, Rose Hill, Littleover, Mickleover and Mackworth.
Some radiators are hot but others barely warm up. Why?
The system is probably unbalanced, meaning hot water takes the easiest route to the nearest radiators and doesn’t reach the others properly. Sludge or trapped air can make it worse. We adjust the lockshield valves on each radiator to balance the system, and can flush it if sludge is the cause.
There’s a loud humming noise from the loft when the tank fills. What is it?
This is usually a worn or old-style float valve vibrating as water flows through it, often made worse by loose pipework. If the valve fails, the tank can overflow. We’ll replace it with a modern quieter valve and secure the pipes to stop the noise.
My water pressure drops at certain times of day. What can be done?
Pressure can fall during busy periods when demand on the mains is high, especially if your supply pipe is narrow, old or partly blocked. We’ll test the pressure and flow at your stop tap, check for restrictions or leaks, and recommend the right fix, whether that’s a new supply pipe or adjustments to your system.
Do you agree the price before starting?
Yes. Your plumber will diagnose the problem and give you a clear quote first. Work only goes ahead once you’ve agreed to the price.
